TCHRD Condemns China's Closing Golok Tibetan School

The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) criticized China's closure of the Ragya Jigme Gyaltsen Nationalities Vocational High School in Golok, Amdo. This follows Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the area, highlighting intensified efforts to assimilate Tibetan culture into the Han Chinese majority. The school, established in 1994, faced persistent pressure and legal challenges. Local Tibetans blame former party secretary Zhang Xiaojuan for the crackdown. This closure adds to a series of shut-downs of Tibetan schools, seen as attempts to erase Tibetan language, culture, and religion.
