Fears grow over cremation of Tibetan leader amid calls for probe

Tibetan groups have urged the Vietnamese government to halt the cremation of Tulku Hungkar Dorje, a revered Tibetan Buddhist leader who died in custody in Vietnam in March 2025 under suspicious circumstances. Tulku Humkar Dorje, reportedly arrested by Vietnamese police with alleged Chinese involvement, died days later, with authorities claiming a heart attack. Activists say cremating his body without an investigation would destroy key evidence. According to sources, China is pushing for a secretive cremation. The International Tibet Network and Students for a Free Tibet warned this could be a cover-up of state-backed violence against Tibetans.
