Prison Sentence Extended for Tibetan Activist A-Nya Sengdra

Tibetan community leader and environmental defender A-Nya Sengdra has had his seven-year prison sentence extended, Tibet Watch reported. Sengdra, known for opposing corruption, illegal mining, and poaching in Golok, eastern Tibet, was due for release in September 2025. However, he has been charged with another offence while in prison, delaying his release until at least February 2026. Family members, who saw him briefly in August, expressed concern for his health. UN human rights experts earlier urged China to release him, calling his imprisonment the criminalisation of legitimate activism.
