China Expands Ethnic Unity Campaigns Across Tibet

China has expanded political and religious campaigns across Tibet in the first 17 days of July to enforce the Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress. A July 5 meeting in Lhasa discussed how to publicize and implement the law at the grassroots level. From July 5 to 7, Tibet party chief Wang Junzheng inspected areas of Shigatse and called for education linking Tibetan children to the Chinese nation narrative. The campaigns also included propaganda drives in Xining and monastery-based political education at Rato and Jamchen monasteries, where monks and nuns were required to attend.
