US Watchdog Demands Sanctions Over China’s Attack on Tibetan Buddhism

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has strongly condemned China’s severe crackdown on Tibetan Buddhism in its 2026 annual report. The watchdog is urging the US government to redesignate China as a Country of Particular Concern and impose strict sanctions on responsible agencies. The alarming report details Beijing's aggressive "Sinicization" policies, including the destruction of 300 Buddhist structures, the continued disappearance of the Panchen Lama, and explicit plans to interfere in the Dalai Lama’s future succession. The International Campaign for Tibet welcomed the findings, urging global leaders to actively pressure Beijing to end this systematic religious repression.
