Amnesty Calls for Release of Detained Tibetan Religious Leader

Amnesty International has launched an urgent campaign demanding the immediate release of Tibetan Buddhist teacher Choktrul Dorje Ten Rinpoche and disclosure of his whereabouts. Chinese authorities reportedly detained him around December 4, 2025, and have not explained the legal basis for his detention or confirmed access to a lawyer or family contact. He founded a monastery and vocational school in Golog, eastern Tibet, and was known for supporting Tibetan language, education and culture. Amnesty previously raised his case in April and now urges China to release him if he was detained solely for peacefully exercising his rights.
