Tibetan Parliament Appeals for Action on China’s Unity Law

The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has urged governments, parliaments, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to challenge China’s Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, which took effect on July 1. In an open letter, Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang called for independent UN investigations, public concern over the law’s consequences, and discussion of the issue in bilateral and international forums. The letter also urged stronger measures against transnational repression and protection for Tibetan communities and advocates. It called on Beijing to enter peaceful dialogue with Tibetan representatives, saying lasting peace cannot be achieved through forced assimilation or erasing Tibetan identity.
