The International Campaign for Tibet urged the US Congress to pass the Assuring the Future of Tibet Act during Captive Nations Week, observed from July 19 to 25. ICT said the bill would strengthen US engagement with the Central Tibetan Administration and keep American support for Tibet beyond the lifetime of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The group also called on Washington to condemn and seek repeal of China’s Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, saying it expands forced assimilation and transnational repression. ICT linked the appeal to Pawo Lobga Rangzen’s self-immolation outside UN headquarters on July 2.
