U.S. State Department’s 2024 Human Rights Report, released on 13 August 2025, found no improvement in Tibet’s rights conditions, citing enforced disappearances, arbitrary detention, torture, and severe restrictions on religion, culture, and free expression. Cases included the death of monk Losel in custody, the sentencing of environmental activist Tsogon Tsering, and bans on images of the Dalai Lama. Authorities also tightened media access, online religious activity, and passport issuance, while continuing transnational repression of Tibetans abroad. The report concluded that China has taken no meaningful steps to hold officials accountable for widespread abuses.
