Tibetan filmmakers and former political prisoners have condemned the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) for hosting a Chinese propaganda segment titled “Xizang Panorama.” In a joint statement published by Tibet Watch, artists including Dhondup Wangchen and Golog Jigme criticized KIMFF’s alignment with China’s cultural narrative, calling it a betrayal of the festival’s mission to uplift marginalized voices. They warned the films falsely depict Tibet as happy under Chinese rule, while real Tibetans face cultural repression and violence. The signatories urged KIMFF to withdraw the segment and instead support authentic Tibetan stories and voices struggling against erasur.
