Report Says Tibetans Feel Crushed by Chinese Propaganda

Tibetans in Lhasa were forced to join large patriotic events during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit, according to a report by the Stockholm-based Institute for Security and Development Policy. The Patola parade ground was turned into a mini Tiananmen Square, where citizens were monitored. Writer Gabriel Lafitte said 20,000 Tibetans were trained to act with “spontaneous joy” at Potala Palace. The report noted that strict new rules and constant propaganda campaigns leave Tibetans feeling stifled, pressured, and unable to freely express themselves, forced instead to display loyalty whenever ordered.
