Monsoon Breaches Himalayas, Moisture Reaches Tibet

5 months ago 1955

Scientists have reported an unusual climate event in September 2025, when southwest monsoon winds crossed the Himalayas and carried moisture into Tibet. Normally blocked by the mountain barrier, the monsoon delivers rain to India, Nepal, and Bhutan while leaving Tibet largely dry. Satellite images showed moisture drifting from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh into the plateau. Experts link the rare occurrence to global warming and increased western disturbances. Dr. Manish Mehta of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology confirmed the finding, calling it extraordinary and potentially significant for South Asia’s weather and ecosystems.
