Ahead of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s first official visit to China, the Tibet Action Institute has issued an urgent open letter demanding he confront President Xi Jinping regarding state-run residential boarding schools in Tibet. Director Lhadon Tethong highlights that approximately one million Tibetan children face forced assimilation in these institutions, which allegedly strip them of their language and culture. The letter argues that a stable UK-China partnership must be built on moral strength, warning that silence on such human rights abuses only emboldens Beijing’s geopolitical aggression and undermines British values.
