French Deputy Charles de Courson has raised an urgent alarm regarding China’s systematic erasure of the Tibetan language and culture. In a formal inquiry, he highlighted a 2026 policy removing Tibetan from university entrance exams and condemned the mandatory colonial boarding school system. Experts warn these forced assimilation tactics could cost 70 percent of Tibetans their native tongue by 2060. In response, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed deep national concern, stating these policies violate international child rights conventions. Consequently, France is renewing international calls for resumed dialogue between Beijing and the Dalai Lama’s envoys.
