Former Tibetan political prisoner Namkyi spoke at a conference in the US Congress titled “Religious Freedom Under Oppression: Confronting China’s Suppression of Religious Freedom.” She recounted being arrested at age 15, along with her sister, for displaying a portrait of the Dalai Lama, and described torture and discrimination faced by Tibetan detainees. Namkyi appealed for continued US support for Tibet. Other speakers included ICT President Tencho Gyatso, advocate Chemi Lhamo, and researcher Tenzin Dorjee. Namkyi also met congressional offices and major NGOs, briefing them on China’s escalating repression in Tibet.
