Seventeen civil society organizations, including the International Campaign for Tibet, have called on the European Union to make human rights central to the upcoming EU-China Summit in Beijing on July 24-25. The coalition urged EU leaders to address China's interference in the Dalai Lama's succession process and hold Chinese officials accountable for violations in Tibet. Recent European support includes a May 8 European Parliament resolution and statements from seven countries' Human Rights Ambassadors supporting Tibetans' religious freedom. The letter highlights cases of detained Tibetan monks from Kirti monastery, imprisoned since 2015 for celebrating the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday. Organizations stress that China's repressive policies represent a growing global threat to human rights.
