Czech Lawmakers Call China Law Cultural Genocide

Senior Czech lawmakers condemned China’s Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, warning that it threatens Tibetan language, religion, and culture. Senator Přemysl Rabas, chair of the Czech Parliamentary Group for Tibet in the Senate, said the law may be regarded as a tool for cultural genocide against ethnic minorities. Vice-President of the Czech Senate Jiří Oberfalzer described it as forced assimilation and a step toward ethnic cleansing. The statements followed a March 25, 2026, Czech Senate resolution that rejected China’s authority over the 15th Dalai Lama’s selection and urged support for Tibetan religious freedom.
