Canadian MPs push “Year of Compassion,” voice strong support for Tibet

During Tibet Day on the Hill in Ottawa on November 17, three Canadian MPs, James Maloney, Alexis Brunelle Duceppe and Karim Bardeesy, voiced strong support for Tibet in the House of Commons. They highlighted the Dalai Lama’s lifelong message of compassion, supported the Tibetan people’s right to self determination, and called for renewed dialogue between China and Tibet. The MPs also urged Parliament to declare 2025 as the Year of Compassion in honor of His Holiness’s 90th birthday. Their statements formed the core of a day of events attended by Richard Gere and Tibetan Canadian community members.
