At the opening of COP30 in Belém, Brazil, climate negotiators urged a truly just transition that safeguards human rights and justice. The International Campaign for Tibet highlighted how Tibet is facing climate injustice through state-led damming projects causing displacement and environmental harm. The group noted China has initiated or proposed at least 193 hydropower schemes in Tibet since 2000, threatening 1.2 million people and vital ecosystems. They called on governments and finance institutions to demand Free, Prior and Informed Consent and ecosystem protections as climate policy moves forward.
