151 Tibet Groups Urge Action Against China Assimilation Law

 A coalition of 151 Tibetan organizations and Tibet support groups has urged foreign ministers from 14 democratic countries and the European Union to oppose China’s Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress before it takes effect on July 1, 2026. The groups said the law would give Beijing a legal framework to deepen forced assimilation by restricting Tibetan language use, curbing religious freedom, suppressing cultural practices, and penalizing peaceful expressions of Tibetan identity. The appeal also raised concern over provisions requiring parents to teach children to “love the Communist Party of China.”
