Young Tibetan Researchers Gather in Varanasi to Discuss Tibetan Heritage and Challenges

The 10th Young Tibetan Researchers Conference, held from November 9-11, 2024, at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) in Varanasi, brought together over 30 young scholars to discuss Tibetan religion, history, politics, culture, and more. Organized by the Tibet Policy Institute, this was the first CIHTS-hosted conference. According to Secretary Dawa Tsering, the event aims to amplify exiled Tibetan voices in international dialogues often dominated by China. Attendees explored unified research methods and China’s controversial narratives about Tibet, fostering a scholarly front for preserving Tibetan heritage and addressing modern challenges.
