U.S. Lawmakers Propose ‘Day of Compassion’ Honoring Dalai Lam

U.S. lawmakers introduced bipartisan resolutions in both chambers of Congress to honor the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday on July 6 as a “Day of Compassion.” The resolution affirms that only the Dalai Lama can determine his successor, rejecting China’s claim over the reincarnation process. It also reiterates support for Tibetans’ rights to self-determination, religious freedom, and cultural preservation.
