U.S. Capitol Hosts Dalai Lama’s 90th Birthday Pre-Celebration

A pre-celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday took place at the U.S. Capitol on 25 June 2025, coinciding with Tibet Lobby Day. Organized by the Office of Tibet, the International Campaign for Tibet, and the Tibetan Association of Washington, the event drew 180 Tibetan youth from 24 states. U.S. lawmakers, including Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jim McGovern, praised the Dalai Lama’s non-violence and reaffirmed support for Tibet. They backed a resolution designating 6 July 2025 as “A Day of Compassion.” Actor Richard Gere also sent birthday wishes via video.
