According to Reuters and Xinhua, rescue operations in Tibet have concluded after a powerful blizzard trapped nearly 1,000 trekkers on the eastern slopes of Mount Everest. One hiker, a 41-year-old man, died from hypothermia and altitude sickness. Heavy snowfall began on October 4 in Dingri County, Xigaze City, cutting off trails near Karma Valley. Local villagers and rescue teams cleared snow and guided stranded trekkers to safety. By October 7, about 200 remaining hikers were evacuated. The storm struck during China’s National Day holiday, as similar floods and landslides in Nepal killed at least 47 people.
