Hundreds of Tibetans demonstrated outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York on July 6, honoring Tibetan independence activist Lobsang Palden, widely known as Lobga Rangzen, after his self-immolation outside the UN on July 2. Students for a Free Tibet said a coordinated car procession partially blocked First Avenue, with vehicles carrying Tibetan flags and Free Tibet banners. The procession included Lobga Rangzen’s hearse as community members in traditional dress paid respects. SFT said the protest called on the UN to address China’s occupation of Tibet and Beijing’s new Ethnic Unity and Progress Law.
