The Tibetan community in the Netherlands celebrated the Dalai Lama’s 89th birthday on July 10, 2024, in Amsterdam. Tibetan Parliamentarians Ven Thupten Wangchen and Thupten Gyatso attended as chief guests. The event began with the enthronement of the Dalai Lama’s portrait, followed by traditional Tibetan butter tea and sweet rice. Attendees prayed for His Holiness’s health and recovery from knee surgery. President Norbu Tsering discussed community objectives, while the Parliamentarians spoke about Tibetan culture, politics, and gratitude towards the Dalai Lama. The two-day event included traditional dances by weekend school students and recognized volunteer teachers.
