Tibetans in D.C. Urge Trump to Confront Xi Jinping on Human Rights

Around 100 Tibetan and Uyghur activists gathered in Washington D.C. on Sunday to urge President Trump to challenge Chinese President Xi Jinping on human rights. The protest, organized by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, comes ahead of Trump’s state visit to China this week. Demonstrators highlighted the "Ethnic Unity Law," which they claim facilitates forced assimilation and the erasure of Tibetan identity through colonial boarding schools. They further demanded an end to Beijing's interference in religious matters, specifically the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. The group appealed for US leadership to prioritize Tibet’s cultural survival during high-level diplomatic talks.
