Tibetans in Dharamsala bid farewell to veteran independence activist, writer and poet Lhasang Tsering on June 15, 2026, when he was cremated near McLeod Ganj, Tibet Express reported. Lhasang Tsering passed away on June 11 at age 74. Born in Ngari in 1952, he entered exile after China’s occupation of Tibet and later joined the Tibetan resistance movement in Mustang, Nepal, in 1972. He also served as principal of TCV School in Upper Dharamshala, worked in the Central Tibetan Administration, led the Tibetan Youth Congress and co-founded the Amnye Machen Institute.
