Tibetans and Japanese Mark 112th Tibetan Independence Day

On February 11, 2025, Tibetans and Japanese supporters gathered at Tokyo’s Shinjuku Historical Museum Hall to observe the 112th anniversary of Tibetan Independence Day. Organized by Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) and the Tibetan Community in Japan (TCJ), the event aimed to counter China’s historical claims over Tibet. Guest speakers, including Prof. Ishihama Yumiko and Dr. Tsewang Gyalpo Arya, discussed Tibet’s history and China’s efforts to erase Tibetan identity. Attendees observed a moment of silence for earthquake victims and late Tibetan leader Gyalo Dhondup. Informational materials on Tibet and Chinese colonial boarding schools were distributed.
