Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) has vehemently rejected recent comments by Gyaltsen Norbu, the Chinese-appointed Panchen Lama, regarding the Dalai Lama's succession. At a December 12 press conference in Dharamshala, TYC leaders condemned Norbu's assertion that the next Dalai Lama must be chosen according to Chinese laws and approved by Beijing. Labeling Norbu a "political tool" devoid of spiritual legitimacy, the TYC reaffirmed that the Chinese government has no authority over Tibetan Buddhist traditions. This rebuke follows Norbu's remarks at a state-sponsored symposium in Shigatse, which were seen as a direct challenge to the Dalai Lama's authority over his own reincarnation.
