Tibetan Teens Detained for Resisting Chinese Government Schools

Chinese authorities detained four Tibetan teens, aged 15-18, for resisting enrollment in government-run schools after their Buddhist monastery school in Sichuan was closed. According to Radio Free Asia, the Lhamo Kirti Monastery school was shut down in July for accepting students under 18. The teens, opposing the switch to Mandarin-only classes focusing on "Xi Jinping Thought," were detained on October 2 for "political re-education" and released after a few days. They are now forced to attend government schools, part of China's ongoing efforts to assimilate Tibetans under its "Sinicization" policy.
