Tibetan Officials Warn of China's Mega Dam Project on Brahmaputra

Tibetan officials in exile have raised serious concerns about China's proposed mega hydropower dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet's seismically active Medog region. Dechen Palmo from Tibet Policy Institute told ANI that China lacks transparency about the project's design and impact on downstream countries like India and Bangladesh. The dam, expected to be twice the size of Three Gorges Dam, could alter river flow and cause floods or droughts downstream. Dolma Tsering, deputy speaker of Tibetan parliament-in-exile, warned China might "weaponize" the dam as political leverage. Both officials emphasized the earthquake-prone location poses dangers to riparian nations.
