Tibetan activists from four major NGOs held a coordinated Global Day of Action in Dharamshala on July 1, 2026, protesting China’s Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress as it formally came into effect. The activists said the law codifies forced assimilation and threatens Tibetan identity, language, and culture. Speaking to ANI, Tenzin Yingsel of the Tibetan Women’s Association urged world leaders to condemn the law and call for its repeal. Tenzin Passang, Director of Students for a Free Tibet, said the measure turns decades of state pressure into a legally mandated policy.
