Tibetan Chess Player Makes Historic National Appearance

Thirty-one-year-old Dawa Tenzin has made history as the only Tibetan to compete in India's National Chess Championship of the Deaf. Representing Uttarakhand, the passionate amateur recently finished 73rd at the 26th national tournament in Nagpur. Born to Tibetan refugee parents and raised in a special needs school, Tenzin currently balances his competitive chess pursuits with a full-time job crafting glass beads at Exile Creations. Although he lacks the time for rigorous professional training, he consistently encourages others to keep their hobbies alive. Tenzin proves that personal dedication and passion can continuously break new ground.
