Tibetan Activist Loses Life After Self-Immolation Outside UN

Tibetan activist Lobsang Palden, known as Lobga Rangzen, passed away following self-immolation outside the United Nations headquarters in New York on July 2, Tibet Express reported. He was president of the New York and New Jersey chapter of the Tibetan National Congress. A livestream from his Facebook account showed him outside the UN with the Tibetan national flag before the incident. Emergency responders took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at age 42. In a final video message, he urged Tibetans in exile to overcome regional and sectarian divisions and unite around Tibet’s future.
