Tawang to Host Trek Honoring Dalai Lama’s 1959 Escape

The Tawang District Administration will hold a six-day trek called the 'Freedom Trail' starting March 31 to mark 66 years since the Dalai Lama's 1959 escape from Tibet. Announced by Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang, the foot march begins at Khen-Dze-Mane in Arunachal Pradesh and ends in Tawang on April 5. The route follows the Dalai Lama’s original path into India, passing key sites like Gorzam Chorten and Lungla. Organisers say the event aims to honour his journey and promote his message of peace and compassion.
