SFT France Sends Legal Notice to Guimet Museum

Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) France has issued a legal notice to the Guimet Museum and France's Ministry of Culture, demanding the reinstatement of the term “Tibet” in museum labels and documents. According to the press release, the museum renamed Tibetan exhibits to “Himalayan World” in February 2024, which SFT argues distorts history and supports China’s narrative. The group calls this a violation of the museum’s duty to impartiality as a public institution. Other groups, including France-Tibet, also oppose the change. The notice demands the full restoration of Tibet’s historical name in all displays.
