According to the Tibetan Nun Project website, 123 Tibetan Buddhist nuns successfully passed the 2024 Geshema exams, achieving an 85% pass rate. Of the 144 participants, all 13 who took the fourth and final year exams passed, setting a new milestone. The Geshema degree, equivalent to a PhD in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, was only made available to women in 2012. Nuns from seven nunneries in India and Nepal participated in the exams held in South India. The formal graduation for the 13 new Geshemas will take place in November after the inter-nunnery debate in Bodh Gaya.
