New York-New Jersey Tibetans Celebrate Dalai Lama’s 90th with Milarepa Opera

On 15 June 2025, the Ex-TIPA Artists Association of New York and New Jersey hosted a pre-celebration for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday at the Phuntsok Deshe Hall with a Tibetan opera on the life of Jetsun Milarepa. Guests included Kunga Tashi from the Office of Tibet and various community leaders. The performance, highlighting Milarepa’s transformation from vengeance to enlightenment, celebrated Tibetan culture and personal growth. Organisers stressed the importance of preserving Tibetan arts, with the event concluding in a traditional Ghoton spirit.
