Lower TCV School will close in December 2024 after failing to attract Tibetan students from abroad. Despite efforts to convert it into a chartered school for overseas Tibetans, only six students enrolled. According to Phayul, TCV General Secretary Choeying Dhondup cited high operational costs and deteriorating infrastructure as factors behind the decision. Current students will transfer to other TCV schools, while the six foreign students will join Upper TCV School next year. The closure highlights broader challenges in Tibetan schools, driven by declining birth rates and migration trends.
