Kaydor Aukatsang urges debates as CTA election campaign heats up

Kaydor Aukatsang has called for mandatory debates ahead of the 2026 Central Tibetan Administration election, saying open discussion is essential for a healthy democracy. Speaking to Phayul media in Dharamshala after announcing his candidacy, he urged separate debates in Tibetan and English during both the preliminary and final rounds. Aukatsang also said incumbents should participate fully so voters can assess their performance. His remarks come amid concerns about declining public confidence in the electoral process. Phayul reported that he stressed debates are vital for transparency and for strengthening Tibetan democracy in exile.
