The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) welcomed the US government's move on March 31 to impose new visa restrictions on Chinese officials responsible for denying Americans access to Tibet. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said China's refusal to uphold reciprocity in diplomatic travel was “unacceptable.” ICT President Tencho Gyatso praised the decision, urging continued enforcement until China ends its isolation of Tibetan areas. The restrictions under the Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act target not only the Tibet Autonomous Region but also Tibetan areas in provinces like Qinghai and Sichuan. The Act emphasizes diplomatic fairness, not interference.
