Global Lawmakers Convene in Tokyo for 9th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet

The 9th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet opened in Tokyo on 28 May with 142 participants from 29 countries, reaffirming global support for Tibetan rights. Hosted by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Japan’s Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet, the event featured keynotes from Japanese dignitaries and messages from global leaders, including the Dalai Lama. Sikyong Penpa Tsering and former political prisoner Namkyi delivered powerful speeches. The sessions addressed authoritarianism, disinformation, human rights, and Tibet’s environmental significance, urging stronger international advocacy and renewed Sino-Tibetan dialogue.
