Lower TCV School in India has launched its first residential program for Tibetan students from overseas, aiming to preserve Tibetan language and culture. The school, previously at risk of closing in 2020, now hosts 73 students, mainly from the Himalayan region. Although only five overseas students have arrived due to visa issues, the initiative will proceed. TCV Director Sonam Sichoe emphasizes the importance of this program, given restrictions on Tibetan education in Tibet. The school charges $350 per month for overseas students, providing a unique opportunity to instill Tibetan values, according to Phayul.
