Delhi High Court has directed authorities to take "appropriate action" against unauthorized restaurants and cafes in Majnu Ka Tila over severe safety violations. Responding to a Public Interest Litigation, the court highlighted that many multi-storey eateries operate without sanctioned building plans or mandatory fire safety measures. The petition alleged that illegal basements and lack of proper staircases pose a life-threatening hazard in this popular cultural and culinary hub. The court has given the DDA and municipal authorities three months to enforce building codes, ensuring that the safety of students and visitors is no longer compromised.
