His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed deep sadness over the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, killing over 1,000 people, with the toll expected to rise, according to state broadcaster MRTV. In a message of condolence, he offered prayers for the victims and affected communities in Myanmar and neighbouring countries like Thailand. The Dalai Lama also acknowledged international relief efforts and said he had directed the Gaden Phodrang Foundation to make a donation to support rescue and relief. The US Geological Survey warned the toll may exceed 10,000 as survivors struggle without proper equipment.
