CTA President Issues Statement After Lobga Rangzen’s Martyrdom

Sikyong Penpa Tsering expressed deep sorrow over the self-immolation of Tibetan activist Lobga Rangzen outside the United Nations headquarters in New York on July 2, 2026. In a written statement, the CTA leader honored Lobga’s devotion but urged Tibetans to cherish and preserve their lives for the long-term struggle for Tibet. He linked the act to worsening repression inside Tibet and China’s Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, which took effect on July 1. Sikyong also extended condolences to Lobga’s family, friends, and the Tibetan community, and called for international action on Tibet.
