A Bangkok gallery has removed and altered artworks on Tibet, Uyghurs and Hong Kong after pressure from Chinese authorities, Reuters reported. The pieces were part of an exhibit on authoritarian regimes, featuring works by exiled artists. Removed items included a Tibetan artist’s multimedia installation, Tibetan and Uyghur flags, and postcards referencing Chinese President Xi Jinping. Other works had words like “Hong Kong,” “Tibet,” and “Uyghur” redacted. Sai, co-founder of the Myanmar Peace Museum, called it an effort to silence critics abroad. Earlier this year, Thailand repatriated 40 Uyghurs to China despite U.N. torture risk warnings.
