Eighteen parliamentarians from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia issued a joint statement calling for stronger international support for Tibet, the International Campaign for Tibet reported on June 16, 2026. The statement followed a Tibet conference in Riga hosted by Latvian MP Juris Viļums, chair of the Group for the Support of Tibet, with ICT Chair Richard Gere as keynote speaker. Participants urged European lawmakers to condemn China’s Law on Ethnic Unity and Progress before it takes effect on July 1 and called for stronger EU coordination, including an EU Special Representative for Tibet.
