Australia Tibet Lobby Day Backs Dalai Lama’s Reincarnation Rights

The Australia Tibet Council and 15 young Tibetans met with around 30 Australian parliamentarians during Tibet Lobby Day on 1–2 September, urging support for the Dalai Lama’s right to decide his own reincarnation. Delegates from Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Queensland, and Victoria highlighted concerns over China’s attempts to erase Tibetan identity, language, and culture, as well as cases of transnational repression in Australia. The event also marked His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, observed globally as the Year of Compassion. This year marked the 13th Tibet Lobby Day, organized in collaboration with Tibetan community associations.
